You will serve as a vital asset in field operations, operating heavy compaction equipment to ensure high-quality surfaces. This role gives you the autonomy to execute precise rolling patterns while receiving the backing of a team that knows you by name. You will directly impact infrastructure durability by consistently meeting strict density and surface finish requirements.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Operate steel-wheel vibratory and pneumatic tire rollers to achieve specified density on asphalt lifts.
- Execute precise rolling patterns based on mix type, lift thickness, and temperature windows to prevent defects.
- Monitor mat temperatures closely and adjust roller proximity to the paver to optimize compaction.
- Coordinate daily with paver and screed operators to maintain consistent spacing and paving speeds.
- Perform thorough pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, including fluid levels and drum conditions.
- Support nuclear density gauge testing and review site results directly with the project Foreman.
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience operating steel-wheel vibratory and pneumatic tire rollers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of asphalt compaction theory, breakdown patterns, and mix behavior.
- Proven ability to safely maneuver heavy equipment and work productively within a team environment.
- Strong detail orientation with a track record of meeting density requirements without surface defects.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and handle equipment vibration.
- Prior experience operating specific equipment brands such as Hamm, Bomag, Dynapac, or Caterpillar.
- Basic understanding of field quality control procedures and nuclear density gauge operations.
- Demonstrated experience assisting with broader paving and site operations during rolling cycles.
