DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Protects store assets by participating in periodic inventory, following established security practices/policies, and handling injuries/incidents to minimize store liability.
- Provides input in the development of operating and capital budgets for store.
- Reviews financial reports of department performance including sales, profit margin, labor, and inventory turns, and assists the Wellness Manager in meeting targets.
- Ensures that inventory and supplies are adequate for daily demand, projected high-sales days, and special events.
- Coordinates with Wellness Manager and Receiver to allocate labor strategically to ensure department margin and labor goals are met.
- Coordinates with Wellness Manger and Wellness Receiver to ensure files are updated and prices are changed accordingly.
- Oversees and participates in sale changeovers and department resets, as needed.
- Helps communicate plans for promotions and new items to staff, suggests new items, and helps ensure sales and promotional items are in stock.
- Participates in, and leads in the Wellness Manager’s absence, department, storewide, and other meetings.
- Follows procedures set by the Wellness Manager to ensure all department staff are regularly informed of department and individual performance regarding measurable goals (margin, weekly sales, loss prevention, etc.).
- Follows the direction of the Wellness Manager to ensure regular trainings and materials for staff, including vendor trainings.
- With the Wellness Manager, keeps department staff informed of storewide and departmental news and policy/procedural changes; helps organize and lead regular department meetings.
- Follows procedure regarding staff attendance and break polices, taking all staff and store coverage needs into account.
- Ensures guidelines for storage, handling, and display of products are followed by all department staff.
- Maintains a system of product rotation established by the Wellness Manager to ensure minimal shrink due to expirations.
- Ensures that promotional signage is accurate and current.
- Stays abreast of developments in the natural products industry.
- Maintains a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
- Supports co-op core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
- Provides prompt, knowledgeable service and assists in finding items or identifying prices.
- Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
PREREQUISITES
- High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in retail management, purchasing, merchandising, and/or personnel supervision.
- A minimum of one (1) year’s experience and familiarity with natural foods.
- Supports the co-op’s core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrates dispute resolution and conflict management skills to help maintain good customer and employee relations.
- Ability to think strategically and be vision-focused for future planning.
- Ability to lead and motivate people to perform at their peak potentials.
- Ability to manage budgets, employees, schedules, and inventory.
- Ability to develop systems to improve efficiency of workflow.

- Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20°F – 90°F).
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods at a time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly and unassisted.
- Reliable access to transportation.
