York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers six graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, Social Work and Nursing Education.

Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in New York State, the College enrolls 7,000 students from over 95 nations. Nine out of ten students are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, and more than half of undergraduates are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

The College’s 50-acre campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a Health and Physical Education Center. The College recently completed seven major construction projects, with more scheduled for the future. In addition, its neighborhood is at the center of a renaissance fueled by economic revitalization.

Reporting to the Executive Chief of Staff, the Director of Workforce/ Continuing Education Programs is responsible for ensuringthe success of existing sponsored cohort programs and finding new projects. The Director collaborates and works closely with variousinternal administrative and academicdepartments,as well as external partnerssuch as, employers, Labor Unions, hospitals, agencies and community-based organizations.

Major Responsibilities Include

  • Manage existing Workforce Development and Continuing Education Programs
  • In concert with academic departments, identifyopportunities forandinitiatenewprograms and partnershipswithlocal employers,unions,andgovernment organizations;collaboratewithemployers and communitystakeholderstoimplement workforce training.
  • Lead the developmentand implementthestrategicplanforWorkforceDevelopment and Continuing Education.
  • Manageday-to-dayoperations ofsponsoreddegree andnon-degreeprograms.
  • Conductneed analysisandseekfundingthroughgrantsandothersources.
  • Analyzecurrent andfuturetrends inlabormarket.
  • Writeproposalsforfunding fornew programs(city,state,federal, private) basedonthe labormarket analysis.Seekfundingopportunitiesthroughgrantsandcontracts.
  • DevelopMOU andtrainingcontracts.
  • Developcustomized courses fornon-traditionallearners. Facilitate curriculumdevelopmentand Implementation.
  • Ensureprogram compliancewith the CUNYpolicies.
  • Manageandsupervise staff;interviewandhirefacultyand staffforspecialprograms.Plan and schedulecoursesandfaculty assignments.
  • Createprogram budgets;prepare billingand feetransfers.
  • Prepareanalytical andassessmentreports formanagementas needed.
  • Serve on college wide committees.
  • May supervise staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor'sDegreeandeightyears'relatedexperiencerequired.Master'sDegreepreferred.
  • Fiveyearsofexperienceinworkforceand/or continuing education trainingprogramdevelopmentandmanagement

  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new programs of study and ensures the coordination and implementation of program components.
  • Plans, markets and implements College programs in Continuing Education, developing overall programs and overseeing development of content, budgets, and marketing strategies.
  • Develops funding proposals; solicits grant information and provides leadership and guidance in partnering with community and governmental agencies.
  • Provide fiscal oversight and evaluation; develops strategic and operating plans; reports progress and results to management.
  • Oversees a comprehensive marketing and public information program.
  • Manages staff of the Continuing Education office.
  • Represents Continuing Education within the College community and externally.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
