General Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform a variety of support work for the City’s cross connection inspection and backflow prevention control program. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
An associate’s degree in business management, engineering or the hard sciences such as chemistry, geology, biology, mathematics, or physics supplemented by supplemented by one years’ experience in an environmental or safety related position. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid Driver’s License
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to monitor an electronic work order system for a wastewater treatment facility, water treatment plant and associated appurtenances, and maintain the systems as new equipment is put into operation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, etc.
- Ability to develop and update plant safety programs such as Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, Chlorine Safety Training, Respiratory Protection, Hazard Communication, Risk Management & Process Safety Management.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite as well as database management.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret state and federal regulations, specifically as they relate to safety programs.
- Ability to interpret drawings and technical manuals to ensure data is accurate and complete.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
- Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
- Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.
Essential Job Functions:
- Monitors and tracks projects via the work order system for the wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant, and associated appurtenances, including identifying needs, entering maintenance schedules, tracking equipment life cycle costs, and managing paperwork.
- Generates daily/weekly/monthly work orders for preventive maintenance and assigns to appropriate work group. After work is completed, ensures detailed information is entered into the work order system, including number of man hours and real costs for any repairs.
- In addition to managing equipment inventory in the work order system, position will include uploading digital operation & maintenance manuals, photos, etc. to ensure reference material is available for major equipment.
- Assists treatment plant management with development and preparation of monthly reports related to the work order system, including but not limited to work orders completed by each employee, repair history and life cycle costs for various equipment, warranty maintenance for new equipment.
- Maintains plant specific safety plans, procedures, and programs.
- Assist in conducting routine site safety inspections for the wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant and major lift stations. Documents inspection findings and implement necessary corrective actions based on results.
- Coordinates with other City personnel to participate in safety committee, dissemination of relevant program information and oversight of safety plan implementation for the wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant and major lift stations.
- Assists in preparing and submitting safety-related regulatory reports to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies.
- Maintains inventory of as-built drawings, warranties, and operation/maintenance manuals associated with plant operations.
- Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
