Position Overview:
The Public Information Officer is responsible for managing the organization’s social media platforms, maintaining and updating the official website, and developing marketing and informational materials in support of public programs and initiatives. This position drafts press releases, public notices, and other communications to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent information is shared with the public. The role supports community engagement efforts and ensures all communications align with organizational policies, branding standards, and public sector best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain official social media accounts, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional communication with the public
- Update and maintain the organization’s website, including posting announcements, documents, and program information
- Develop and maintain City’s brand and media packet
- Develop and design marketing and informational materials (flyers, brochures, graphics, presentations)
- Draft and distribute press releases, public notices, and other official communications
- Ensure all content aligns with organizational policies, branding standards, and public information guidelines
- Coordinate communication efforts across departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging
- Create visual and audio content for City branded podcast, newsletter, and social media outlets.
- Monitor public engagement and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Assist with public outreach initiatives, campaigns, and community engagement efforts
- Maintain records of communications, media coverage, and outreach activities
- Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in public sector communications and digital media
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in political science, public administration, communication, marketing or a related field.
· Two years of increasingly responsible experience in marketing, communications or brand management
· Experience managing social media accounts and website content (CMS platforms such as WordPress or similar)
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting press releases and public-facing materials
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
· Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
Physical Demands:
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and operate office equipment. Continuous sitting and upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity; light to moderate finger pressure to manipulate keyboard, equipment controls, and office equipment; pinch grasp to manipulate writing utensils. Frequent side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist; moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials; lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 yards. Occasional squatting, kneeling, and reaching above and at shoulder height; moderate grasping to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 20-35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.
Pay: Up to $80,000.00 per year
