The Child and Family Guidance Center is currently seeking a full time Fatherhood Outreach Support Specialist for the Greater Bridgeport Home Visitation Program.  

The Fatherhood Outreach Support Specialist is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular contact/support with fathers and their children. Providing services to fathers within the family’s home as well as in the community. 

They will collaborate with community members and offer case management support to respond to the individual needs of the fathers.  

The Fatherhood Outreach Support Specialist will provide interventions that are be family-centered, strength-based, and directed at:   establishing a trusting relationship; assisting in strengthening the parent-child relationship; assisting fathers in improving their parenting skills; improving the father’s support system; and increasing the father’s ability to problem solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following Essential Functions:

  • Identify and recruit at risk fathers in need of support within the community
  •  Conduct assessments and collect data information from participating fathers including family and other required information
  • Provide a minimum of thirty-minute weekly contact with fathers 
  • Provide and promote child development information with parent- child activities from approved curriculum 
  • Promote parental bond between father and child 
  • Help to promote healthy co- parenting relationships
  • Advocate, support and empower fathers in learning importance of their role in their child’s life 
  • Share information regarding child development while promoting parent- child interactions 
  •  Serve as a liaison within the community by collaborating with other community providers servicing fathers.
  • Collaborate with other home visiting staff with outreach efforts to increase community awareness in home visiting services
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate fathers or family groups helping family build their support network.
  • Mentor and support fathers achieving educational, employment and life goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors level in human services or fields related to working with children and families is preferred
  • Experience in home visiting prevention services to 0-3 age population, which embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision.
  • Access to personal transportation in order to perform home visitations
  • Endorsement in Infant Mental Health or in process of obtaining endorsement.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships
  • Knowledge of the social and emotional functioning of young children, knowledge of infant and child development
  • Experience and willingness to work with the culturally diverse populations present among the site's target population and acceptance of individual differences
  • Must have excellent writing and communication skills (both verbal and written).  The ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. 
  • Cultural sensitivity, awareness and knowledge required as well as a strong familiarity of community resources preferred
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 virus, unless eligible for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish (preferred)
