Work Hours: Monday through Friday 2pm to 5:30pm or 5 hour 3 days a week (Flexible but must work on Monday)
Summary
The Youth Advocate is responsible for supporting and facilitating the social and personal development of adolescents and teenagers. A Youth Advocate is a guide and mentor to youth who gives direction in their academic, vocational, and personal lives and pursuits.
Essential Functions:
- Implement SEL/College/Career skill-building curriculum and research-based assessment.
- Develop academic and social emotional goals with students using Motivational Interviewing techniques.
- Conduct ongoing individual and small group sessions with youth to build SEL skills and support academic achievement.
- Participate in and help plan student activities such as school tours, trips, and events related to College & Career development.
- Participate in mentoring activities and assess the youths’ progress towards the fulfillment of decreed goals and objectives.
- Be aware of popular culture and trends to be able to connect with students.
- Demonstrate as a perfect role model.
- Attend related professional development opportunities to build personal/professional skills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Pay Rate:
- $20.00 an hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalency
- Bilingual in one or more of the following: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali and others, may be required depending on client and location needs.
- Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
- Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines, communicate with stakeholders, and manage competing tasks.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree.
