The Positive Regard Network (Chicopee, MA) is seeking applicants for the position of Reading Specialist/Teacher. The Reading Specialist/Teacher, under the supervision of the Education Administrators, will provide academic instruction and enrichment for students in accordance with licensure requirements as outlined by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The Reading Specialist/Teacher will also support students in building their reading skills through school-wide literacy initiatives, targeted interventions, and ongoing collaboration with Special Education Teachers, parents, and administrators. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, 12-month position. Salary range $60,000 to $84,000 per year.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on reading and writing required; Master’s degree in education with a concentration in reading preferred.
Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Reading Specialist required.
Experience teaching students with language-based learning disabilities strongly preferred.
Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with young children; strong collaboration skills; and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
Preference given to candidates with training and/or certification in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Language, or other structured literacy programs.
Commitment to innovative instructional practices and the use of technology to enhance learning.
Working knowledge of federal and state ESE regulations, particularly those related to special education and MCAS requirements.
Job Description: The Reading Specialist/Teacher:
Coordinates school-wide reading intervention and literacy programs.
Conducts or arranges all literacy-related assessments as required by students’ IEPs and advocates for additional testing or services when needed.
Diagnoses, assesses, prescribes, and evaluates individual student reading needs to determine appropriate levels of support.
