Team Overview

The Carlyle Group's Global Credit platform ("Carlyle") manages approximately $211 billion in assets across a broad range of strategies, including structured credit, CLOs, direct lending, opportunistic credit, mezzanine, real estate, infrastructure, and distressed investments.


The Special Credits Group ("SCG") is a centralized, cross-platform team responsible for all stressed, dislocated, and restructuring situations across Carlyle's Global Credit portfolio. SCG leads restructuring execution and negotiations, underwriting credits independently from originating deal teams and partners directly with senior investment professionals across the platform.


Primary Responsibilities

The Special Credits Group is seeking an Associate to support the evaluation, execution, and negotiation of all restructuring related activity across Carlyle's credit platform. The Associate will be a generalist across sectors and credit strategies: Key responsibilities include:


  • Support all aspects of restructuring transactions and situations, including both in court and out of court processes
  • Actively participate in creditor / company negotiations and ad hoc groups
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models with ability to sensitize various capital structures and operating scenarios
  • Preparation of investment committee materials and senior management updates
  • Re-underwrite underperforming and distressed credits, developing holistic views and actionable recommendations
  • Support portfolio companies and management teams in all regards following a change of control and / or reorganization
  • Create and monitor distressed credit watchlists to be used by senior management
  • Track and analyze data, trends and transactions across the restructuring and distressed debt markets
  • Drive development and integration of AI tools to enhance analytical workflows and reporting

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in restructuring investment banking, private credit, leveraged finance, or related fields
  • Strong financial modeling capabilities, particularly in restructuring and complex capital structures
  • Deep understanding of credit documentation and various legal options in distressed situations
  • Familiarity with a range of restructuring transactions including but not limited to: bankruptcies, liability management, stressed amend and extends and change of control transactions
  • Strong presentation skills - experience assembling investment committee and or client ready presentation materials is preferred
  • Self motivated, strong attention to detail, with a strong academic record
  • Demonstrated interest in distressed investing, restructuring and special situations
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve workflows, data analysis, or reporting is a plus


Benefits/Compensation

The compensation range for this role is specific to New York, NY and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.


The anticipated base salary range for this role is $150,000.


In addition to the base salary, the hired professional will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package spanning retirement benefits, health insurance, life insurance and disability, paid time off, paid holidays, family planning benefits and various wellness programs. Additionally, the hired professional may also be eligible to participate in an annual discretionary incentive program, the award of which will be dependent on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
