Oversee the day-to-day operations of CHC clinical labs on the East side of Michigan.
Responsibilities include managing personnel, maintaining equipment, policy and procedure review and update and employee training. Work collaboratively with leadership across departments to produce highest quality healthcare and patient satisfaction.
Requirements
Job Requirements/Preferences:
Education: Bachelor of Science with Chemistry or Biology Major
and
Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) AMT Certified
Position reports to Director of Laboratory Services
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: 3-5 years of laboratory experience
2-3 years of supervisory or management experience
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Communicate and interact with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patients services and staff morale. Interact effectively with patients and their family members, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural diversity, age specific needs and confidentiality.
Function as a team member by expanding responsibilities as directed by administration to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
Work Environment
Very fast-paced and ever changing healthcare environment. Demanding regarding deadlines and time frames. Very detailed and challenging work. Constant demand for updating knowledge. Works closely with physicians and ancillary personnel in caring for and treating oncology/hematology patients. Exposure to a variety of attitudes, personalities, and health related reactions of patients, families and visitors. Possible exposure to a variety of contagious diseases and/or hazardous materials.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for day-to-day management of laboratory operations including supply inventory, staffing coordination, specimen testing and equipment maintenance.
- Responsible for reviewing and updating all policies and procedures, assuring conformation to all State and Federal laboratory regulations.
- Maintain quality results by working closely with Lead Technologist on quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Work collaboratively with all CHC departments to improve communication and outcomes. Attend and participate in Leadership meetings. Participate in various subcommittee as needed.
- Partners with the Regional Laboratory Manager to interview, select, retain and enhance the education and development of staff.
- Monitors employee performance partnering with the Regional Laboratory Manager on corrective action and performance evaluations
- Administrates time and attendance issues including management of employee work schedules, payroll and time off requests / absences
- Work with reference labs and vendors to promote continuity of care for patients when send out testing is indicated. Maintain kit inventory and supplies.
- Provide support to laboratory staff by performing duties of the medical technologist and the phlebotomists to help with work load when indicated.
- Work with Regional Laboratory Manager and Senior Director of Laboratory Services to help implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation and procedures by investigating alternatives and preparing proposals.
