What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barback position at The Butchers Daughter - Austin?
HIRING: Barback
The Butcher’s Daughter is opening on South Congress, and we’re looking for energetic, hardworking Barbacks to join our opening team.
The Butcher’s Daughter is a plant-forward restaurant, café, and juice bar with locations in Los Angeles and New York. We’re known for seasonal food, thoughtfully crafted beverages, warm hospitality, and creating spaces that bring people together.
As we prepare to open in Austin, we’re looking for Barbacks who are fast, organized, dependable, and ready to be an essential part of a busy bar team.
ABOUT THE POSITIONOur Barbacks are the backbone of the bar. You’ll work closely with our Bartenders to make sure they have everything they need to provide fast, consistent, and exceptional service.
This is a high-volume environment, so we’re looking for people who move with purpose, stay aware of what’s happening around them, and anticipate what the bar needs before being asked.
A great Barback is always thinking a few steps ahead — keeping the bar stocked, clean, organized, and ready for the next rush. You'll always keep yourself busy!
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Keep the bar fully stocked throughout service
- Replenish liquor, wine, beer, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other supplies
- Assist Bartenders with setup and breakdown of the bar
- Prepare garnishes, juices, syrups, and other basic bar prep
- Wash, polish, organize, and restock glassware
- Maintain ice wells and refill ice throughout service
- Clear and maintain the bar top and surrounding service areas
- Keep coolers, storage areas, and bar stations organized
- Remove trash, recycling, and empty bottles as needed
- Anticipate Bartender needs and respond quickly during busy service
- Help maintain an efficient flow between the bar, dining room, and service well
- Receive and properly store beverage deliveries when needed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment
- Complete opening, closing, and side-work responsibilities
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and company standards
- Support the Bartenders and broader restaurant team wherever needed
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Previous barback or restaurant experience preferred
- Experience in a busy, high-volume restaurant or bar is a plus
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to work efficiently
- Organized and able to anticipate what needs to happen next
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail
- Able to safely lift and carry cases, kegs, ice, and bar supplies
- Comfortable being on your feet and moving throughout the shift
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed
- Interest in learning more about cocktails, wine, spirits, and bar operations
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays
A strong bar program starts with a strong support team. Our Barbacks play an essential role in keeping service moving and allowing our Bartenders to focus on making great drinks and taking care of our guests.
We’re looking for people who work hard, move quickly, pay attention, and take pride in being a great teammate.
For someone interested in developing a career behind the bar, this is also an opportunity to learn our beverage program, develop your skills, and grow toward a Bartender position with The Butcher’s Daughter.
