Controls Systems Engineer / Automation Engineer

Compensation: $46 per hour
Overview
We are seeking a Controls Systems Engineer (Automation Engineer) to support automated material handling equipment (MHE) in a high-volume fulfillment environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, programming, and optimizing control systems to improve reliability, uptime, and overall performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and modify PLC/PC programs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, RSLogix 5000)
- Support conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply systems, and SCADA platforms
- Serve as first-level escalation for on-site and remote controls support, including after-hours issues
- Inspect systems to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and safety standards
- Oversee contractor work including scope, scheduling, and inspections
- Drive reliability improvements from concept through implementation
- Monitor and maintain industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet), servo drives, VFDs, and electrical systems
- Analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and partner with operations teams on improvements
- Communicate technical information, timelines, and impacts clearly to stakeholders
- Build strong working relationships with client and operations teams
Requirements
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
- 2–5 years of controls or automation experience
- 2 years of PLC programming, robotics controls, and SCADA systems experience
- Experience participating in at least two full engineering design cycles
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing and bending
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or additional experience in controls troubleshooting and programming
- Experience with conveyors, sortation systems, and robotic maintenance
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities
