Overview
The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is a well-established behavioral health facility in Philadelphia providing inpatient psychiatric care, substance abuse treatment, and outpatient behavioral health services. We are a leader in behavioral healthcare, committed to delivering trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care to meet the needs of our diverse community.
We are seeking a Community Recovery Specialist (CRS) to join our team. This position is a full-time, Monday through Friday, daytime schedule (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM) with no evening or weekend hours. The CRS provides peer-based support to individuals in intensive outpatient and outpatient programs, including 1:1 peer counseling, group facilitation, recovery support, and post-treatment follow-up. The role also plays a vital part in outreach, engagement, and reentry planning for individuals transitioning from incarceration or inpatient treatment back into the community.
Responsibilities
Provide individual peer counseling during treatment and in post-discharge follow-up
Facilitate and co-lead recovery-focused groups
Conduct outreach through phone calls, home visits, and mailings
Lead orientation and provide recovery education for new program admissions
Assist with reentry transition planning for individuals returning from prison
Use motivational interviewing and de-escalation techniques when appropriate
Accurately document services and interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Monitor urine collections, model positive behaviors, and document observations
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and actively participate in staff meetings
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) or Certified Peer Specialist certification required within 90 days of hire
Minimum of 12 college credits in Behavioral Health or Human Services preferred
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
Lived experience in recovery strongly preferred
Familiarity with 12-Step programs (AA/NA)
Proficiency with computers and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
Strong communication, engagement, and documentation skills
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
