Community Recovery Specialist – Behavioral Health & Addiction Recovery (Per Diem)

Schedule: Per Diem | Shifts available 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, or 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM

This is a per diem position. While hours are not guaranteed, staff in this role are typically scheduled on a consistent weekly basis depending on program census and coverage needs.

The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard, through our Miracles in Progress Residential Program, provides structured behavioral health and addiction recovery services for chronically homeless men in Philadelphia. Position Overview
We are seeking compassionate and motivated Community Recovery Specialists to join our residential recovery team on a per diem basis. This hands-on role provides supervision, peer support, and recovery-focused services to residents in treatment. Community Recovery Specialists play a vital role in supporting clients through relapse prevention, structured programming, and reintegration into the community.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one peer support and engagement to residents in recovery
• Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery-focused groups and discussions
• Conduct room checks, safety rounds, and behavior monitoring
• Support vital signs monitoring, urine collection, and package inspection as needed
• Assist nursing and counseling staff with daily programming and client needs
• Transport clients to medical, legal, and community appointments
• Document observations and maintain accurate records in the Electronic Health Record
• Provide follow-up recovery support after treatment completion
• Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive therapeutic environment
Qualifications
• Minimum of 12 college credits in Behavioral Health, Human Services, or related field required
• At least one year of experience working with individuals in recovery required
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
• Strong de-escalation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Computer literacy and comfort with documentation systems
• Knowledge of 12 Step Recovery Models, AA, NA, motivational interviewing, and recovery management
• Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Recovery Specialist training preferred
• Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred
