Our client is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join their growing team in Monmouth County, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take ownership of the entire employee lifecycle while helping shape the company's culture and HR processes. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys wearing multiple hats, building strong relationships across office and field teams, and supporting a collaborative, employee-focused workplace.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full recruitment process for both office and field positions, including sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and new hire orientation.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding activities, including pre-employment screenings, employee documentation, benefits enrollment, and exit procedures.
- Process weekly payroll, including union payroll, while ensuring accurate employee classifications, wage rates, and compliance.
- Maintain confidential employee records and oversee HR systems, policies, and employee handbook updates.
- Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, 401(k), leave programs, open enrollment, and employee communications.
- Coordinate ESOP-related communications and recordkeeping with internal teams and external administrators.
- Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ACA, EEO, I-9, E-Verify, and federal contractor requirements.
- Serve as the primary HR resource for employee relations, conflict resolution, investigations, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coordinate workers' compensation claims and OSHA-related documentation alongside field operations teams.
- Identify and implement HR process improvements that support the company's continued growth.
Qualifications
- 4 years of Human Resources Generalist experience, preferably serving as the primary HR professional or within a small HR team.
- Experience supporting construction, heavy civil, engineering, or similar industries is a plus.
- Strong understanding of federal and New Jersey employment laws and HR compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus.
- Experience processing payroll through an HRIS platform; UKG experience is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across all levels of an organization.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
