The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a High Voltage Electrician (WG-2810-10) to join the team at the 11th Civil Engineering Squadron, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington D.C. In this position, you would install, modify, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electric power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines.

Hourly pay range $34.71 - 40.55 Based on experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations.

- Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.

- Troubleshoots distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment.

- Uses and maintains various hand and power tools and test equipment such as oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, and cable locating and fault finding equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA's)

- Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair work needed for high voltage equipment and lines; and of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel, circuits, line loading, line losses.

- Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, instruments used in shop, and trade practices; and of troubleshooting and locating defects and trouble spots.

- Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines without more than normal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

- US Citizenship is required

- Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

- Must possess knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and of types and sizes of wires/cables, conduits, transformers, and other electrical equipment and circuit elements, and the skill to integrate them into electrical systems and equipment to insure proper operation.

- The employee frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work aloft on poles, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods.

- May be required to possess a valid operator's license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. AND/OR, may be required to procure a government operator's permit or obtain a commercial driver's license to drive and/or operate special electrical repair trucks and/or obtain a flight line driver's license.
