Tax Manager
A well-established, full-service public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its team. This role is based in the Greater Houston area.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation & Review
- Prepare and review federal tax returns including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041, and 990, among others
- Prepare and review state income tax returns for individuals and business entities
- Prepare and review applicable state franchise tax reports and related filings
- Prepare and transmit tax extensions
Client & Project Management
- Calculate quarterly federal and state estimated tax projections for individuals and entities
- Manage and respond to client communications, including emails and calls
- Meet with clients as needed for tax planning discussions and project updates
- Organize and deliver completed returns and coordinate document signatures
- Draft correspondence to the IRS and state agencies and resolve client notices and inquiries
Team Leadership & Support
- Answer tax-related questions from preparers and review work completed by staff
- Prepare and review weekly client status updates and reports
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and supervisors
- Contribute to business development and firm initiatives
Compliance & Administration
- Perform or review bookkeeping, payroll, and sales tax filings as needed
- Maintain accurate WIP tracking and assist with client billing as necessary
- Utilize QuickBooks (desktop and online) and tax software as required
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's in Taxation preferred
- CPA certification (or in progress) preferred
- 6–8 years of public accounting experience, including corporate and partnership tax
- Working knowledge of state income and franchise tax for multistate filers
- Demonstrated success in building and managing client relationships
- Strong supervisory and mentoring skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, UltraTax, QuickBooks, or equivalent software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time permanent basis
