We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Construction to lead and oversee our healthcare construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in managing complex healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, medical office buildings, and specialized care units, while embodying our commitment to agility, accessibility, and transparency. This role will drive strategic project execution, foster strong client relationships, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all phases of healthcare construction projects, from preconstruction planning and design to execution and closeout, ensuring alignment with client goals, budgets, and schedules.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless communication and project success.
- Develop and manage project budgets, perform cost assessments, and implement value engineering to optimize costs while maintaining quality and functionality.
- Ensure all projects adhere to healthcare-specific regulations, including OSHPD (where applicable), and maintain rigorous safety and compliance standards.
- Implement and refine project management processes, leveraging LEAN principles and innovative strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire project teams, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creative problem-solving and accountability.
- Contribute to the development of the healthcare construction portfolio, including master planning, site evaluations, and entitlement processes.
- Proactively manage and resolve project challenges, ensuring positive outcomes for all stakeholders through effective negotiation and communication.
- Support client acquisition and retention by identifying opportunities, building trust, and delivering exceptional project outcomes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 7 years focused on healthcare projects (e.g., hospitals, medical office buildings, imaging suites, ICUs, or laboratories).
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Accreditation from the American Council for Construction Education or equivalent is preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certificate, LEED AP, and/or LEAN leadership training preferred.
- Strong knowledge of preconstruction processes, cost estimation, contract negotiation, project scheduling, and MEP systems coordination.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and drive projects to successful completion under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with a focus on transparent and proactive communication.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing project demands and market conditions.
- Deep understanding of healthcare construction standards, regulations, and best practices, with experience in managing projects ranging from $50M to $1B.
