Location: Knox County, Illinois (Relocation Available)

They've got a diverse commercial portfolio with a strong focus on Ag and C&I lending. The bank is recognized for its relationship-driven approach and commitment to community success.
They are seeking a Chief Credit Officer (CCO) who exemplifies the qualities of a true community banker. This role combines executive oversight with hands-on lending. In addition to providing strategic leadership over credit policy, risk management, and portfolio quality, the CCO will actively manage a personal portfolio and be expected to originate new lending relationships, particularly in the agriculture and commercial sectors.
This position offers a unique opportunity to blend credit administration with universal banking responsibilities, ensuring the bank continues to grow while maintaining its strong community roots.
Responsibilities
Executive Leadership
- Oversee credit policy, loan approvals, and risk management practices.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to lenders and credit staff, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Partner with executive management to set and execute lending strategy in line with the bank’s growth goals.
- Lending & Portfolio Management
- Actively manage and grow a personal loan portfolio with a focus on commercial and agricultural lending.
- Develop new business opportunities and deepen existing customer relationships through proactive community engagement.
- Structure, underwrite, and close complex commercial and agricultural credits.
- Community Banking
- Represent the bank at community and industry events, building trusted relationships with farmers, business owners, and local organizations.
- Champion the bank’s mission of delivering personalized, relationship-based financial solutions.
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive commercial lending and credit administration experience, preferably within a community bank environment.
- Strong background in agriculture lending and C&I lending.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide lending staff while fostering a culture of prudent, relationship-driven lending.
- Ability to balance strategic oversight with active lending responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; commitment to community involvement is essential.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, ag economics, or a related field (MBA or graduate banking school preferred).
