Responsibilities
- Safely guide and position tractor-trailers using hand signals or radio communication to ensure precise parking, loading, or unloading.
- Assist truck drivers with maneuvering trailers in tight or congested areas, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Coordinate with warehouse staff and drivers to facilitate efficient cargo loading and unloading processes.
- Maintain clear communication with drivers regarding yard movements, route directions, and safety protocols.
- Follow all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations during yard operations.
- Conduct manual handling of freight cargo when necessary, ensuring proper load securement and adherence to safety procedures.
- Perform routine inspections of trailers such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or roll-off trucks to verify condition before movement or delivery.
Skills
- Proven experience with commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving.
- Knowledge of truck types such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time location tracking.
- Ability to operate forklift equipment safely when needed for cargo handling.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for dangerous goods transportation.
- Skilled in manual transmission operation and manual handling techniques for freight management.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with drivers and warehouse personnel in fast-paced environments.
