Tarsco Bolted Tank Inc. manufactures and constructs customized, above-ground bolted storage tank systems worldwide.
The Paint Lead is a working lead responsible for overseeing the surface prep (blast/clean) and powder coating of structural steel parts on the automated paint line. The Lead helps ensure parts meet quality requirements before they ship to the customer’s jobsite for tank erection. The paint department runs an automated line that moves parts through each step of blasting and powder coating.
The Lead supports and ensures proper execution of assigned work for up to 14 paint associates. The Lead must be able to run every station and complete every task that associates perform. The Lead owns safe, steady, high-quality line operation during the shift and reports to the Assistant Paint Manager under the Paint Superintendent.
· Run the automated powder coating line safely and efficiently during the shift. Own start-up, shut-down, pacing, and coverage to reduce downtime.
· Has authority to stop the line for safety or quality risk and to restart once corrected.
· Communicate to staff the work to be done, suggest means or methods for timely completion of work.
· Provide technical support for staff.
· Follow progress of jobs to insure reasonable labor & material costs are maintained.
· Coordinate work by assigning and directing associates in each station rotating and backfilling as needed
· Enforce safety on the floor. Ensure PPE use, safe material handling, and stop work for unsafe conditions.
· Own quality at every station. Check surface prep, hang to maximum density, powder coverage/film build, cure results, and takedown of completed parts.
· Review daily paperwork from associates in each station to insure accuracy of signed off completed parts.
· Identify, remove, repair, or refinish components that have been damaged, wrong or missing. All work must be done in compliance to our flat layout and parts drawings.
· Make sure daily/weekly cleaning and PMs are done for all booths, blaster, and oven components. Report maintenance needs clearly to management.
· Control powders and supplies at point of use. Lead color changes and check first parts are good before releasing full runs. Meaning no cross contamination from the previous color painted.
· Track shift results (output, scrap/rework, downtime reasons, color-change time). Give a clear handoff to the next shift.
· Knowledge of all methods, procedures, practices and tools of a powder coat assembly line.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings/sketches, schematics, diagrams and written specifications as they pertain to the powder coat line.
· Must also have a general understanding of how they pertain to the build process.
· Thorough knowledge of hand tools, power tools, their setup, operation, maintenance, and safety precautions.

· Clean machines, tools, and work areas using approved cleaners. Keep stations clean and safe.
· Apply powder coating to parts, components, and equipment per spec.
· Check finished parts for quality.
· Dispose of hazardous waste per standard practices.
· Verify correct powder color/finish per job. Prevent cross-contamination.
· Per standard know how to remove contaminants being grease, dirt, rust, or mil scale the proper way either it be solvent cleaning power tool, hand tool cleaning, or blasting
· Watch coating results for any defects (blisters, streaks, contamination) and correct the cause.
· Take apart, clean, and reassemble powder guns/sprayers and related equipment as required.
· Operate forklift and material-handling equipment safely.
· Train and cross-train new and current associates. Reinforce standard work and good technique.
· Join root-cause and improvement work to reduce repeat defects, rework, and downtime.
· Help with trials, new part runs, hook/fixture improvements, and updates to standard work/visual boards.
· Support safety, quality, and environmental audits and follow-up actions.
· Perform other duties as assigned.

· Detail oriented and quality focused.
· Strong knowledge of powder coating, including surface prep, mil thickness, coverage technique, cure rate results, and color-change discipline.
· Can spot coating defects and determine the cause.
· Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings preferred.
· Ability to complete basic computer reports and production/downtime notes.
· Strong leadership skills: clear communication, coaching, task direction, and conflict resolution.
· High School or GED
· At least 3 years of industrial manufacturing experience, with at least 1 years in a leadership position
· Understanding of Quality standards and first-pass yield expectations
· Powder coating and automated conveyor line experience strongly preferred
· Sandblasting and troubleshooting experiences are strongly preferred
· Visual coating defect analysis required. Ability to troubleshoot and correct process issues at the station level preferred.
· Ability to work in a hot climate-controlled environment
· Ability to adhere to PPE requirements (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, uniforms, gloves, masks, etc.)
· Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds individually, team lifting/mechanical techniques for any work processes that exceed 51 pounds
· Must be able to work in a noisy work environment (hearing protection available)
· Must be able to work in a dusty work environment (masks available)
· Must be able to effectively follow written & oral instructions.
· Must be able to work up to 12 hour shifts as needed
· Must be able to work standing and walking up to 12 hours in a single shift
· Normal work schedule is 10 hour shifts, 4 days per week with daily and weekly overtime as needed due to business needs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $20.50 per hour
