Laborer (Summer)

Position Description:

Salamatof Native Association is looking to hire staff for the Summer Program in Kenai, AK. Employees will be expected to perform basic lawn maintenance and other related chores to assist our elders and other members of the community. This position offers experience with hands-on manual labor, interpersonal and professional skills, and a chance to make a difference in your community. We aim to help our young people grow with early job experience to give them the knowledge and confidence necessary for their futures. This is a part-time seasonal job that will last for the duration of the summer season.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

·       Assist elders with chores, yard work, general clean up

·       Assist in setting up events

·       Assist at the greenhouse watering, weeding, etc.

·       Ability to follow instructions

·       Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with supervisors, coworkers, and elders

·       All minors 16 years of age and under must obtain an Alaska Work Permit prior to the first day of work.

·       Physical strength and stamina required to do regular lawn care (able to lift up to 30 lbs.)

·       A giving and respectful attitude

·       Ability to follow instructions

·       Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with supervisors, coworkers, and clients

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking on uneven surfaces, crouching, kneeling, manual dexterity, lifting heavy objects, ability to operate basic lawn machinery (lawn mower), working in various environmental conditions.
