Opportunities to Contribute:
Acts as initial information point for the Medical Sciences Library (MSL) at the Dallas campus.
Communicates with faculty, staff, and students, and utilizes advanced skills to answer their information needs in person, online, and by phone.
Provides advanced circulation assistance.
Provides advanced instruction on a variety of electronic and print information sources available throughout the library.
Uses advanced reference tools and databases to answer users’ routine and complex questions and refers patrons to the librarians for professional research needs.
Communicates regularly with Client Services at College Station, peers at regional sites, and the client services coordinator to address library resources, client requests, usage, space management, and problem-solving needs.
Collaborates with Client Services at College Station and regional staff to manage and maintain onsite collections, circulation, reserves, and policies, ensuring seamless delivery of resources and services.
Represents the library at the assigned locations and serves as embedded staff.
Participate in location specific student events and introduces library services to Dallas patrons.
Takes the lead on finding opportunities to improve services and the library for clients at assigned location.
Salary Rate: $22.82/hr
Location: This position is located onsite in Dallas, Texas.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Seven years’ experience in a public, academic or specialized library or archive.
A well-qualified candidate will also possess:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Library Support Staff Certification from ALA.
Previous work experience in a medical library or academic setting.
Previous work experience at a remote location and/or being the sole staff.
Thorough knowledge of library functions and expert knowledge of unit functions.
Knowledge of health sciences literature, dentistry, and/or medical terminology.
Knowledge of complex and varied library online research database searches and/or processing.
Two years TAMU experience as a Library Specialist III.
Strong communication, customer service, planning, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in email, word processing, spreadsheet applications
Attention to detail, accuracy, and adaptability in a changing work environment
Conflict resolution skills.
Ability to think critically and have good decision-making skills.
Reliable attendance and a commitment to excellence in client support
