As the Assistant Controller, you will serve as a strategic leader within the Accounting team, responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. You’ll lead the development and implementation of financial processes, internal controls, and reporting systems that support compliance with GAAP and fund accounting standards. This role is essential to maintaining transparency, accountability, and operational excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Leading the coordination of the annual audit and working with external auditors
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and internal financial regulations
- Supervising and mentoring accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration
- Overseeing daily accounting operations and supporting strategic financial initiatives
- Collaborating with internal departments and external partners to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Participating in special projects and identifying opportunities for process improvement and system enhancements
- Supporting mission-aligned financial decision-making through data-driven insights
What We’re Looking For…
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant fields
- 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience.
- Active Certified Public Accountant certification in good standing
- Experience with financial reporting and compliance
- In-depth understanding of technical generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Ability to communicate specific internal control requirements and identify and correct deficiencies
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant fields
- Prior experience in public accounting with either tax or audit work
- Experience in nonprofit or higher education finance
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial software, especially Blackbaud Financial Edge and Workday Adaptive Planning
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and team-focused mindset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate the attributes and behaviors of a Passionate Professional Dedicated to Purposeful Philanthropy
- Embody the Aggie Core Values and the Foundation Mission
- Contribute to team effectiveness through knowledge-sharing and proactively identifying process improvements
- Participate in the establishment and attainment of personal, departmental, divisional, and organizational goals and objectives in support of the mission, vision, and goals of the Foundation
