Job Description
Purpose:
Zachry Common Labs invites applications for a full-time Laboratory Technician under general supervision, evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering or scientific techniques to support the teaching and research operation of Zachry Common Labs. General areas of focus include: mechanical testing, material science, fluid and mechanical processes (e.g. pumps, blowers, heat exchangers), control systems, electronics, and electrical systems. Technician will work as part of a team and their specific area of focus will complement the group expertise.
What We Need:
The Zachry Common Labs support more than 60 College of Engineering undergraduate academic lab courses across multiple departments. The Zachry Common Labs span three floors and provide engineering students with access to state-of-the-art equipment for a hands-on experience. Students also benefit from lab and equipment safety standards and personal protective equipment trainings, consultations with professional staff, and testing opportunities for senior design and capstone teams. The Zachry Common Labs service center infrastructure allows faculty to access testing equipment to assist in their research.

- We are actively recruiting for a level I or II Technician.
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of related experience.
- Experience in field and bench electronics repair.
- Experience in power systems, including three phase power.
- Experience in control systems, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic.
- Experience with data acquisition systems.
- Experience using engineering software, cad software, etc.
- Experience with mechanical system (pumps, blowers, compressors, heat exchangers).
- Experience with materials testing and materials characterization.
- Experience in scientific research, operational, managerial, or experimental work.
- Experience evaluating and implementing lab safety requirements.
- Experience working with diverse groups of customers.
