The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla’s products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large community of other engineering teams. Engineers and technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of vehicle and energy product systems for existing models and models in development. This extremely high visibility individual contributor role requires extensive hands-on work focused on electromechanical failure analysis and root cause activities.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly experienced senior technician who finds enjoyment in understanding how things work and how we can correct and prevent issues from occurring. They will be responsible for assistance with diagnosing electromechanical concerns.

A successful candidate will need to become intimately familiar with various analysis techniques involving non-destructive and destructive techniques. Examples of those include capturing and understanding 2D X-ray data, mechanical sample preparation, assembly tear down, cross sectioning, basic electrical debug using a multimeter, and documentation of regions of interest on failed samples. They will work alongside experienced engineers while utilizing sophisticated failure analysis tools to identify failure mechanisms observed in engineering, production, and field environments.

As an industry leading company, Tesla offers the opportunity to work on industry leading products and bleeding edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.

What You'll Do

  • Support failure analysis activities for electromechanical assemblies with basic failure confirmation & recreation, teardown inspections, documentation while paired with critical thinking to determine failure mechanisms
  • Utilize basic and analytical tools covering various analysis techniques. Examples include hand tools, logging DMM, grinder & polishers, precision diamond saws, 2D X-ray systems, and elemental identification tools
  • Document the steps through multiple sample inspections, replication tests, and teardowns. Examples include use of Word, Excel, project tracking systems such as Jira, visual & optical image capture

  • What You'll Bring

  • High School Diploma with College Degree preferred. Similar achievement of mentorship or trade schooling certification as a substitute
