Position Summary:
The Septic Backhoe Operator is responsible for the safe and precise operation of backhoes and other heavy equipment in support of septic system installation, excavation, trenching, grading, and related construction activities. This role requires a strong understanding of job site safety, equipment handling, and septic system layouts. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Core Responsibilities:
- Operate backhoe and heavy equipment to perform excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling
- Install and assist with septic tanks, lateral lines, drainage fields, and related system.
- Ensure safe excavation practices while identifying and avoiding underground utilities
- Perform precision digging and grading to meet project specifications
- Conduct daily pre- and post-operation equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA standards)
- Coordinate with crew members, supervisors, and project leads to meet deadlines
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Backhoe Operator, Excavator Operator, or Heavy Equipment Operator
- Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, trench safety, and construction site operations
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to perform physically demanding work.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and safety
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and within a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with septic system installation, repair, or inspection
- Ability to operate additional equipment such as skid steer, mini excavator, or trackhoe
- Knowledge of soil types, grading, and drainage systems
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting and minor repairs
Work Environment:
- Outdoor construction and residential job sites
- Exposure to dirt, mud, uneven terrain, and changing weather conditions
