What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Pre-K Teacher position at Temple Emanu-El of Westfield?
Temple Emanu-El's Early Learning Center in Westfield, NJ is seeking a Head Pre-K Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The hours are 8:45-3pm (preferably staying until 5:30pm).
Our Early Learning Center is a vibrant Jewish early childhood program serving infants through kindergarten in a nurturing, play-based environment that honors children, builds strong relationships, and fosters curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
ONLY APPLICANTS with a MINIMUM of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education will be considered.

Role Description
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum
- Create a safe, responsive, and organized classroom environment
- Lead and supervise assistant teachers and support classroom teamwork
- Observe, assess, and document children’s growth and development
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families
- Collaborate with administration, colleagues, and specialists as needed
- Support classroom routines, transitions, and special events
- Maintain licensing, health, and safety standards
Qualifications
- MUST HAVE a Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education or related field
- Experience teaching preschool-age children
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to lead a team with warmth and professionalism
- Understanding of child development and play-based learning
- The ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and maintain a level of physical fitness that allows for activities such as bending and moving easily throughout the classroom environment.
