What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Teksky LLC?
We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Hackettstown, NJ. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between mechanical design and electrical systems, with a focus on switchgear, power distribution equipment, and control enclosures.
You’ll play a key role in transforming electrical concepts into practical, manufacturable mechanical designs, ensuring accuracy, functionality, and compliance across complex systems.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop mechanical and electrical enclosure systems for low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies based on electrical schematics and design requirements
- Translate electrical layouts into mechanically sound designs, ensuring proper integration within enclosures
- Verify bus bar routing, alignment, phase spacing, supports, and clearances
- Coordinate between EPLAN layouts and 3D CAD models to ensure design feasibility
- Identify and resolve dimensional conflicts across components such as breakers, CTs, wiring gutters, and enclosure structures
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, serviceability, and installation access
- Produce production-ready drawings and documentation
- Support engineering changes based on manufacturing feedback, FAT results, and field conditions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and field service teams
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3–6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within switchgear or electrical enclosure design
- Experience with EPLAN or similar electrical design tools
- Proven ability to interpret electrical schematics and coordinate electrical-mechanical designs
- Strong experience consolidating multiple drawings and inputs into cohesive designs
Core Skills
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and assembly design
- Experience with switchgear or MCC systems (NEMA Class 891)
- Solid understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical fit
- Background in sheet metal and enclosure-based design
- Knowledge of bus bar systems and three-phase electrical layouts
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with low- and medium-voltage switchgear standards (NFPA, IEEE, NEC)
- Hands-on experience with EPLAN
- Experience with CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, or AutoCAD
- Exposure to ERP systems like NetSuite
