Technician, Electronics

Position Function/Purpose

Role and Purpose:

To work within the Technology Department to repair, maintain, upgrade and repair Electronics equipment, systems, and associated peripheral equipment.

Major Responsibilities

         1.  Be able to analyze system problems to board level and effect repairs

         2.  Be able to troubleshoot some equipment to component level as warranted by manufacturers

         3.  Provide electronic systems and equipment testing, analysis and repair as directed

         4.  Work with other departmental and campus staff to analyze electronic equipment problems and effect repairs

         5.  Cross train with other staff from Technology Department and assist in other areas when needed or as directed

         6.  Physically able install wiring/cable and electronic devices in a building structure as directed using ladders to

               access and work inside attics, tunnels and concealed spaces

         7.  Setup electronic systems, audio/visual systems, and electronic equipment throughout the district as directed

         8.  Work with district staff as an electronic resource person to aid in the use of various electronic equipment  

         9.  Follow and enforce the rules and regulations of the Technology department and the Midland ISD               

        10.  Perform all duties and task assigned by the Technology Project Manager or Executive Director of Technology.

        11.  Attend service schools and seminars as directed to increase knowledge on specific school equipment

        12.  Be available on a flexible schedule and for some overtime and after hours work as directed and authorized.

13. Specific responsibilities:

        a.  AMX systems:  Set IP Address, knowledge of XMLS, command codes.

        b.  Sound Systems:  Amps, mixers, speakers

        c.  Shelter in Place/Lockdown drills

        d.  Telecenter 21 Intercoms

        e.  Cable TV (coax) troubleshooting

Qualification Requirements

      Minimum Certification/Education:

        1.  High School Diploma or GED

        2.  Valid Texas Driver's License

        3.  Life Health Safety Code (NFPA 72)

        4.  Licensed Fire Alarm Technician (State of Texas)

         Special Knowledge/Skills:

         1.  Basic training in Life Health Safety Systems and consumer electronics repair

         2.  Working knowledge of electronics schematics and test equipment

         3.  Background and experience in troubleshooting of consumer electronics equipment,

                including TVs, VCRs, receivers/monitors, laser disc players, fire alarm panels & communications etc.

         4.  Knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of audio-visual equipment including overhead

                projectors, phonographs, audio tape recorders, film projectors, etc.

         5.  Possess the ability to program, operate, and repair digital/microprocessor control devices and

               various computer controlled systems i.e. communications, fire alarm, pa systems etc.

         6.  Knowledge of and repair of computerized/electronic scoreboards and clocks

         7.  Proficient at electronic bench repairs as well as field troubleshooting and installations.

                Possess a working knowledge of electronic test equipment including, vtvm, vom,              

                oscilloscope, power supplies, ac/dc circuits etc.

         8.  Possess the ability to work from manufacturers component schematics and service

                Manuals and the ability to locate and troubleshoot problems using blueprints and

                 electrical drawings

         9.  Possess a working knowledge and understanding of CATV/CCTV/MATV video

                applications repair and installations

         Minimum Experience:

         1.   Prior on the job experience and training  in electronic systems and component repairs
