Job Type: Contract
Position is on-site, 7.5 hour day, 37.5 hour wk, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4:30pm, 1 hour lunch.
Job Summary
The State of Indiana is seeking motivated and customer-focused professionals to join the Department of Revenue as a Call Center Representative / Tax Analyst. This role is responsible for assisting taxpayers by answering tax-related inquiries, researching account issues, processing payments, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCall Center Representative
- Provide outstanding customer service via phone and written correspondence.
- Respond to taxpayer inquiries regarding tax filing, payments, and Department of Revenue procedures.
- Apply training and available resources to research and resolve customer concerns.
- Enter, update, and retrieve information using computer systems and databases.
- Communicate professionally with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all ethical standards and policies.
Tax Analyst
- Assist taxpayers, taxpayer representatives, and internal departments with tax-related questions and account issues.
- Review taxpayer accounts and accurately apply payments.
- Research and resolve complex payment, return, and tax liability issues using Department databases.
- Review, update, and close taxpayer accounts as appropriate.
- Create billing adjustments, liabilities, penalties, and interest according to court orders and agency procedures.
- Assist with investigations by preparing documentation and supporting evidence collection.
- Process confidential taxpayer information requests while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in a fast-paced call center environment.
- 2 years of customer service experience.
- 1 year of experience handling confidential information and maintaining ethical standards.
- Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to professionally handle taxpayer inquiries and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Strong computer proficiency and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of knowledge of tax regulations.
- 1 year of experience researching and resolving tax-related inquiries.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Work Environment: Onsite | Fast-paced call center supporting the Indiana Department of Revenue.
Pay: $20.00 - $23.95 per hour
Work Location: In person
