What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Accountant position at TBG | The Bachrach Group?
Role: Senior Accountant (Tax) | Location: Long Island, NY | Job Type: Full-time
Why This Role
Our client is a well-established CPA firm on Long Island looking for a senior accountant who's ready to run engagements start to finish, not sit under constant review. This is a full-cycle role, bookkeeping through finished tax return with direct, ongoing client contact and real ownership over how the work gets done. For a technically strong accountant who's just as confident in front of a client as behind the numbers, it's a seat with genuine autonomy.
Position Overview
The Senior Accountant / Tax Professional will independently finalize full-cycle accounting engagements and prepare individual, business, and entity tax returns with minimal supervision. Client interaction is constant, phone, email, in-person meetings, and site visits , so the role requires translating technical detail into practical guidance as much as producing the underlying work. Multiple engagements run in parallel, with deadlines and priorities managed independently.
Core Responsibilities
- Independently finalize full-cycle accounting engagements, from bookkeeping review through financial statement preparation
- Prepare and finalize individual, business, and entity tax returns with minimal supervision

- Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, prioritizing deadlines and deliverables independently
- Identify issues, research solutions, and bring recommendations to management rather than waiting to be told what to do

- Strong, hands-on public accounting experience required. This is not an entry-level or trainee position
- Demonstrated ability to finalize books and tax returns independently, with minimal review needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting to and advising clients directly
- Self-starter mentality: motivated, resourceful, able to manage own workload and priorities

- Proficiency with accounting and tax software (QuickBooks, ProSystem fx, Lacerte, or similar)
