Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing effective practice sessions and training programs.
- Provide instruction and feedback on wrestling techniques, strategies, and conditioning.
- Support the recruitment and retention of student-athletes for the wrestling program.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages sportsmanship and respect among athletes.
- Monitor the academic progress of team members and promote a balance between athletics and academics.
- Help organize and manage team events, including competitions, fundraisers, and community outreach activities.
- Collaborate with the head coach and other coaching staff to develop game plans and strategies for matches.
- Attend all practices, competitions, and team meetings as required.
- Maintain open communication with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team progress and individual performance.
- Uphold the values and standards of Tawas Area High School’s athletic program.
Requirements
- Previous experience in wrestling, either as a competitor or coach, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage student-athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, athletes, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- A commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the wrestling season.
- A high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in physical education, sports management, or a related field is a plus.
