Summary
Provides intermediate level professional public health nursing services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, counseling and education to clients.
Performs professional nursing work for the tuberculosis clinic including intake activities, evaluating and assessment of new patients, administering medication, assisting with nursing clinics and, functions as front side medical clinic nurse, review sputum and laboratory results, notifies physician of anything out of the normal range, quality assurance, immunizations, phlebotomy, participates in high risk screening activities and a variety of professional tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs specialized assessments, diagnosis and treatment to the tuberculosis clinic utilizing appropriate protocols and guidelines.
- Elicits health histories related to tuberculosis and presenting symptoms
- Collects specimens/phlebotomy as part of the assessment and diagnosis process
- Performs tuberculin skin testing and readings
- Documents all activities
- Prepares reports for case management meetings
- Provides education and counseling for patients and family members regarding infection and medication instructions
- Performs quality assurance activities and Nursing Clinic and Medical Clinic activities
- Assists the Clinic Charge Nurse as needed
- Interfaces with infection control nurses in Tarrant County
- Interfaces with private medical physicians
- Assists with TB outbreaks in the community
- Assist with high risk screening activities
- Works in partnership with Epidemiologist Specialist to evaluate new contacts
- Reports anything unusual to Clinic Charge Nurse and the Division Manager
- Prepares and functions as the front side nurse for all medical clinics
- Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required
Minimum Requirements
NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.
TO APPLY, must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
AND Two (2) full-time years of public health and/or supervisory experience
OR
TO APPLY, must have an Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) and Four (4) full-time years of public health work and/or supervisory experience.
TO APPLY, must have a Current Texas or multistate compact (including Texas) RN license.
TO APPLY, must have Texas RN license required within ninety (90) days of hire.
Note: MUST PROVIDE LICENSING AGENCY AND LICENSE NUMBER ON APPLICATION IN THE "License" FIELD OR RISK DISQUALIFICATION.
TO APPLY, must have a valid Texas driver license and personal auto insurance. Note: A Texas driver license is required to hold the position.
Must be knowledgeable of the basic operations and services of a Public Health Clinic (various infectious and communicable diseases, principles and procedures of record keeping, and principles of basic report preparation) and an understanding of pertinent federal, state and local codes, laws, and regulations.
Ability to deliver medication to patients or transport patients to health clinic for various medical services.
Learn to independently conduct tuberculosis skin testing and readings and provide counseling and educational information to patients.
Ability to speak a foreign language as assigned by position preferred but not essential.
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past Seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, and drive a motor vehicle.
Salary : $60,000 - $120,000
