Job Description

The Radiology Nursing Care Technician performs basic nursing care and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Required Knowledge & Skills

Education: High School Diploma plus 1 year vocational school

Experience: One year of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.

Licenses and Certifications

*HEALTHCARE PROVIDER (CPR)

Qualifications

*Currently enrolled in a practical nursing program or a student currently enrolled in a professional nursing program, or previous experience working with patients, or one quarter of clinical experience as a student nurse, or a successful completion of a nurse aide course, or experience from a related healthcare field preferred.

*Will accept 2 years of related experience in lieu of vocational school.

*BLS within 30 days of hire.

Functions

Area of Responsibilities

*Maintains required knowledge training and functions within the scope of practice. Acts as a resource to other patient care nurses.

*Performs basic patient care attending to physical and emotional needs of the patient in a family-oriented environment. Contributes to the unit activities including but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, obtaining interpretive services, performance of simple dressings, specimen collections, and patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living. Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.

*Documents in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

*Effectively understands and operates basic equipment used routinely on the unit, including but not limited to EKG, vital monitors, and accucheck. Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate departments for resolution.

*Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision-making process for all ages of population(s) served. Respects patients' rights and confidentiality.

*Complies with standards set forth by the Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.

*Participates in quality improvement and other processes as requested. Suggests and supports changes within the department.

*Greats and regularly communicates with patients, family, medical and other staff to assure very good customer service. As appropriate involves family significant other in the treatment process. Serves as a patient advocate and assists the patient and family in meeting their identified needs. Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN.

*Requests assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. Constructively receives feedback and direction. Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance.

*Communicates clearly and effectively with the care team.

Compliance Statement

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Position Responsibilities

Effect of Error: Probable error usually detected in succeeding operations and generally confined to a single department or phase of organization activities. Practically all work is subject to verification or check. Occasional work with some confidential data where the effect of any disclosure would be negligible or where the full import is not apparent in the routines performed.

Mental Demands: Semi-routine duties of some variety and difficulty performed under general supervision and following general operating procedures and practices. Work involves some planning to select correct methods and correct for error.

Working Conditions: Considerable - (About 75% of the day) Involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
