Job Description

$15,000 Sign On Bonus - External Hires Only

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs Cardiopulmonary duties by hospital policy/procedure under general supervision. This can include administering of respiratory treatments, airway management, ventilator management, blood gases, and other noninvasive cardiology procedures. This individual will be held to a high level of customer service representation and will be an active participant in the continuous quality improvement process. The RRT shift supervisor will also be responsible for the oversight of all activities of the therapists assigned to him/her and involved in the training and evaluation of these employees.

Education

Associate Degree or 2 years of college coursework

Experience

Three years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.

*Healthcare Provider (CPR)

*ACLS Certification

*Respiratory Care Professional

*Pediatric Advanced Life Support

*Neonatal Resuscitation Provider

Qualifications

*Completion of AMA accredited school for Respiratory Therapy

*Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist

*Minimum of 3 years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist

*Must complete PALS and ACLS within first 10 months of employment

Requirements

Area of Responsibilities
*Administers respiratory treatments and oxygen therapy correctly and in a timely manner. Participates in airway management during CODEs. Performs ventilator care according to established policy and protocols. Must be able to set priorities to complete daily assignments.
*Participates in performance improvement activities by helping to identify, monitor and achieve improvement goals established by the department.
*Provides consistent, accurate and supportive supervision to all assigned employees. Assures that all work is done with orders, appropriate therapy, complete documentation and accurate charges. Demonstrates the ability to coordinate cardiopulmonary care of the patient with other departments which fosters multidisciplinary care planning.
*Provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees. Through the established systems and protocols used to evaluate staff for excellent customer service employee will achieve the set goals.
*Working knowledge of department policies and procedures and standards of care/practice. Documentation is in compliance with hospital policy and regulatory agencies.
*Accountable for use and ordering of supplies and maintaining inventory
*Accurately evaluates self and meets pre-established professional goals.
*Acts as preceptor/mentor for students and new employees.
*Complies with standards set forth by the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies
*Demonstrates awareness of policies and procedures regarding restraints and administers procedures appropriately to restrained patients.
*Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of the population(s) served. Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately with various ages. Demonstrates ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of the patient served. As appropriate involves family/significant other in the treatment process.
*Effectively operates and understands the use of specialized equipment.
*Knowledge of and follows OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Regulations
*Participates in continuing education as mandated per policy.
*Participates in multi-disciplinary patient care conferences. *Takes part in the Resource Call rotation for the location you represent.

Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Supervision
*Responsible for all activities provided by assigned staff during that shift. Oversees work to assure that orders, therapy, documentation and charting of each therapist is done per policy and protocol. Orients all new therapists and corrects their work as function of staff development. Assists with employee evaluations.

Qualifications
*Completion of AMA accredited school for Respiratory Therapy
*Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
*Minimum of 3 years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
*Must complete PALS and ACLS within first 10 months of employment. For employees hired prior to 7/1/25, PALs must be completed by 1/1/27.

Definitions
*The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs Cardiopulmonary duties in accordance with hospital policy/procedure under general supervision. This can include administering of respiratory treatments, airway management, ventilator management, blood gases, and other noninvasive cardiology procedures. This individual will be held to a high level of customer service representation and will be an active participant in the continuous quality improvement process. The RRT shift supervisor will also be responsible for the oversight of all activities of the therapists assigned to him/her and involved in the training and evaluation of these employees.

Contact With Others
Requires frequent but limited contacts with many others to do job, or extensive contacts with a limited number of categories of people to apply procedures or treatment. Requires discretion and tact to interpret departmental procedures.

Effect Of Error
Probable errors not easily detected and may adversely affect external as well as internal relationships and may result in major expenditures for equipment, materials, or procedures detrimental to the patient's welfare or the organization's interest. Work is subject to general review only and requires considerable accuracy and responsibility. Continually works with reports, records, plans, and programs of a major functional area of the organization where integrity is required to safeguard the organization's position. Duties may involve the preparation of data on which the administration bases important decisions and are highly confidential.

Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises a small section of employees (up to 15); orients and trains employees, schedules, assigns, checks and maintains flow of employees' work, carries out most personnel decisions, and initiates minor personnel actions.

Mental Demands
Work involves a variety of complex problems to be solved under general organization policies. Ingenuity and judgment are required to review facts, plan work, estimate costs, and deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results, draw conclusions, and take or recommend action. Solutions to problems often require coordination with other departments.

Physical Effort
Medium physical effort - Lifts, carries, or handles lightweight (1 to 25 lbs.) materials or equipment for most of the day. Occasional physical effort with medium weight objects (25-60 lbs.). Very occasional physical effort with heavy objects (over 60 lbs.).Works in reaching or strained positions for about half of day.

Working Conditions
Considerable - (About 75% of the day) Involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
