Salary: $24.84 per hour non-negotiable
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Safety and Security Director (“Director”), this position performs a variety of duties related to protecting the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribe’s (“Tribe”) assets, premises, such as Tribal members, personnel, guests, vendors and contractors from a variety of hazards by enforcing preventative measures, by maintaining a high-visibility presence to deter illegal and inappropriate actions, looking for signs of crime or other hazards, taking action to minimize damage, and reporting any incidents to the Director and/or emergency services, as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities.
- Patrol assigned areas or location on the day swing or midnight shift on foot or vehicular as assigned.
- Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
- Patrol tribal facilities to ensure property and persons are secure and safe from hazards.
- Secures all tribal premises and persons by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access situations.
- Detect and report or correct unsecured areas and facilities at all times.
- Communicate with Tribal community, personnel and representatives regarding security-related concerns and issues.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.as needed
- Drive and maintain a patrol vehicle, if assigned.
- Maintain a variety of records related to field activities and prepare incident reports in accordance with department policy.
- Provide assistance to all visitors, including A’Avutem (Tribal Seniors).
- Attend emergency disaster preparedness training and public education activities.
- Assist Tribal Emergency Response Manager in inspecting facilities and equipment such as the emergency response command mobile unit, to ensure operational and functional capabilities in emergency situations.
- Act as the first responder for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
- Communicate and Coordinate with emergency services, such as fire and police departments, in the event of an emergency

- Maintains public trust
- Attend mandatory trainings, workshops, and conferences
- Travel as required to perform duties
- Perform related duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. For a high school diploma/GED equivalency, a ratio of 1:1 will be used for applicants with less than a high school diploma/GED. This means that one year of paid full-time work experience equals one year of high school education.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate GED/HiSET required and, one (1) year of experience in security or related field
- An applicant that has completed an 8th grade education will need to have 4 (four) years of full-time work experience to substitute for the required high school diploma/GED and, one (1) year of experience in security or related field
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: To perform and to continue to be qualified for this position, the requirements listed below must be met at a time of hire or may be obtained within a specific amount of time depending on the position requirements. Costs for required certifications, licenses, and registration are to be covered by employee, unless offered by the Tribe.
- Must maintain prior to hiring and throughout employment a valid California Class C driver’s license and insurability under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy
- May require defensive driving training every two (2) years
- Community Emergency Response Team Certification (CERT) and/or obtainable
- This position has duties and responsibilities that require regular contact with or control over Indian children and is therefore subject to the background investigative process to comply with P.L. 101-630
