JOB TITLE: Groundskeeper
DIVISION: Facilities & Public Works
DEPARTMENT: Groundskeeping
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY: $17.84 per hour non-negotiable
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Groundskeeping Supervisor (“Supervisor”) this position will primarily be responsible to perform a variety of grounds maintenance and gardening duties in the beautification of assigned grounds and landscaped areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities.
- Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; prepare and fertilize soil; water various areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system; maintain grounds areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition
- Perform general grounds cleanup, including picking up and removing paper, trash and debris from grounds areas, including but not limited to parking lots, roads or other assigned areas
- Operate a variety of power-driven equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, blowers, chainsaws and other equipment used in landscaping work; utilize standard gardening and maintenance hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work
- Maintain grounds maintenance equipment in safe operating condition as directed; perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment
- Identify, resolve and report safety issues and hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency grounds maintenance weeds as requested
- Perform various custodial and general maintenance activities as assigned by the position; maintain related buildings in a clean, orderly, safe and secure condition
- Pick up, distribute, haul and transport supplies, materials, equipment and trash.
- Maintain routine records and logs related to assigned activities and supplies as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Non-supervisory

- Attend meetings
- Attend mandatory training
- Travel as required to perform duties
- Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic grounds maintenance procedures which include mowing, edging, raking and weeding
methods, equipment and materials used in gardening and grounds maintenance work
- Cultivating, fertilizing, watering and spraying of flowers, trees and shrubs
- Operation of hand and power tools and equipment used in ground maintenance
- Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies
- Appropriate safety precautions and procedures
- Proper lifting techniques
ABILITY TO:
- Apply cultural sensitivity to tribal operations
- Observe and follow health and safety regulations and practices
- Mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, rake and cultivate lawns, flower beds, fields and other landscaped areas
- Keep basic logs and request quotes for supplies as needed
- Prioritizing time and duties to ensure not interrupting ongoing daily activities
- Maintain assigned grounds in a safe condition
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools and other equipment used in grounds maintenance
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Drive a vehicle or work truck with a trailer
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Two (2) years of related work experience will be equal to 30 college credits and vice versa.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate GED/HiSET required and two (2) years of Groundskeeping experience that demonstrates the knowledge and abilities listed above
- An applicant that has completed an 8th grade education will need to have 4 (four) years of full-time work experience to substitute for the required high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of Groundskeeping experience that demonstrates the knowledge and abilities listed above
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: To perform and to continue to be qualified for this position, the requirements listed below must be met at a time of hire or may be obtained within a specific amount of time depending on the position requirements. Costs for required certifications, licenses, and registration are to be covered by employee, unless offered by the Tribe.
- Prior to hiring and throughout employment must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License and maintain insurability under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy
