We are seeking a skilled and safety-minded Winch Cat Operator (or Snowcat Operator) to join our Mountain Operations team. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy equipment, a strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently in challenging and variable weather conditions. You will be responsible for grooming and maintaining all snow-covered terrain, ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for our guests.
Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment: Safely and efficiently operate snowcats and other grooming machinery with various attachments to groom, move, and compact snow according to resort standards.
- Terrain preparation: Prepare and maintain ski slopes, snowboard terrain parks, cross-country trails, and access roads. This includes moving snow, flattening trails, and building features in terrain parks.
- Equipment inspection and maintenance: Conduct thorough pre- and post-shift inspections of your assigned snowcat, checking fluid levels, tracks, and other components. Perform minor maintenance and fueling as needed.
- Communication and reporting: Communicate with supervisors and other operators via two-way radio regarding daily assignments, potential trail issues (e.g., thin spots, rocks), and equipment problems. Accurately complete and submit grooming and maintenance logs.
- Safety protocol: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing a seatbelt/safety harness and maintaining situational awareness at all times.
- Adaptability: Work effectively during swing or overnight shifts, and in all types of alpine weather conditions, including extreme cold, wind, and low visibility.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other operators, snowmaking crews, and mountain departments to achieve operational goals.
- Experience: [1–3] seasons of experience operating heavy equipment, with previous snowcat operation experience strongly preferred.
- License: A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
- Mechanical aptitude: Proven ability to understand mechanical systems, troubleshoot minor equipment issues, and perform basic maintenance.
- Physical demands: Ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, and climb on uneven terrain. Must be able to lift and move up to [50lbs] or more.
- Work ethic: Self-motivated and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team during overnight shifts.
