What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Rep position at Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center?
Ensures that patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patients or representatives and enters information required for admission into a computer database. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments.
- Performs admission functions for all patient types.
- Responsible for admissions, outpatient procedures, and obtaining and verifying insurance eligibility.
- Responsible for obtaining personnel information or verifying information on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information.
- Responsible for obtaining signatures on the conditions of admission.
- Provides patients with information about billing, complaint process, patient rights, HIPAA, and visiting hours.
- politely answers the telephone and communicates information to the appropriate personnel or family member.
Requirements
- Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, and private insurance companies.
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
