Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the greater Birmingham, AL area that is looking for a skilled Senior Systems Administrator to support and optimize a large-scale, multi-site IT infrastructure across stores, distribution centers, and corporate environments.
What you will do:
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments
- Administer Windows and/or Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and enterprise storage systems
- Manage core infrastructure services including: Active Directory , DNS / DHCP Group Policy
- Microsoft 365 / Azure AD / Identity platforms
- Monitor system health, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal performance
- Maintain disaster recovery readiness and high-availability environments
- Perform system upgrades, patch management, and lifecycle maintenance
- Support hybrid infrastructure environments spanning datacenters and cloud/SaaS platforms
- Administer VMware and/or Hyper-V environments supporting retail and enterprise applications
- Assist with cloud migration initiatives and infrastructure modernization strategies
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools
- Implement infrastructure security best practices and hardening standards
- Monitor vulnerabilities, apply remediation, and support incident response efforts
- Ensure compliance with company policies, operational standards, and regulatory requirements
- Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues across distributed environments
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions
- Maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
- Mentor junior administrators and technical support staff
- Partner with networking, security, and application teams on cross-functional initiatives
- Contribute to infrastructure projects, architecture planning, and strategic IT initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 5–8 years of experience in Systems Administration or Infrastructure Engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Windows Server and/or Linux
- Active Directory & Identity Management
- VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Cloud and SaaS platforms
- Scripting experience with PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls)
- Experience with backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery planning
