What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Talently?
Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Shelton, CT
Salary: $105,000 - $130,000
Skills: Senior Accountant, CPA, inventory accounting, cost accounting, GAAP, account reconciliations, manufacturing finance, Excel, ERP systems
About the Opportunity:
My client, one of the most established manufacturing companies in the space, is looking to hire a Senior Accountant. This is a rare shot at owning inventory accounting end to end, not just supporting someone else's close. You'll sit at the intersection of finance and operations, with real influence over how the numbers get reported, not just how they get recorded.
This is a hands-on ownership role, not a pure processing seat. You'll be the person operations and plant teams call when the numbers need explaining, and the one shaping how inventory gets valued and controlled. If you want a seat where your judgment carries weight, this is built for you.
Expect month-end intensity in exchange for genuine influence over process, controls, and how the story gets told to leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the finance partner operations and plant teams turn to, translating what's happening on the floor into accurate financial reporting
- Own the full inventory close cycle, from journal entries through reconciliations, without needing hand-holding on either
- Build and defend inventory valuation calls, including reserve estimates, using judgment rather than just formula
- Get to the bottom of variances during cycle counts and physical inventories, and decide the right accounting treatment once you find the cause
- Keep controls audit-ready year round, so SOX season and external audit requests are routine, not fire drills
- Turn inventory data into insights leadership actually acts on, and use that same lens to push automation and process improvements forward
Must-Have Skills:
- Someone who wants ownership over inventory accounting decisions, not just execution of a checklist
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong emphasis on inventory or cost accounting
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP as it applies to inventory valuation and cost accounting
- Experience with major ERP and financial close platforms
- CPA certification - Big 4 ideal
Salary : $105,000 - $130,000
