About the Food and Beverage Retail Company / The Opportunity:

My client, one of the fastest-growing quick service food and beverage retailers in the country, is looking to hire an International Tax Manager.

This is a rare shot at owning tax end to end at a company that is still writing its own rulebook. You will have direct access to finance leadership and the runway to shape how tax works across the entire business, not just maintain what already exists.

This is a hands-on leadership role built for someone who wants to be a builder first and a manager second. You will be the first tax hire, which means every process, every relationship, and every system choice starts with you.

The scope spans domestic and international indirect tax, new market entry, and enough exposure to direct tax and transfer pricing to keep things interesting. Leadership wants someone who wants ownership now and is building toward running a full tax function over time.

Responsibilities:

• Own market expansion tax strategy: research new jurisdictions, write the technical memos, and take each new market from registration through first filing.
• Serve as the go-to contact when tax authorities come knocking, whether that is a state audit, an IRS notice, or an inquiry from an international regulator.
• Build and refine the transfer pricing framework across entities as the business grows into new countries.
• Design and own the tax calendar across every entity and jurisdiction, so nothing gets missed as the footprint expands.
• Partner with Product and Digital teams to make sure tax logic is built correctly into new sales channels and platforms from day one.
• Review and manage external tax preparers on direct tax filings, owning timelines and quality rather than doing the returns yourself.
• Prepare select filings and credit studies in-house, including R&D and other specialty tax positions.
• Spot exposure before it becomes a problem: track thresholds, flag risk, and bring solutions instead of just problems to leadership.

Must-Have Skills:

• You have either built a tax function from the ground up or led indirect tax end-to-end at a fast-scaling, multi-location or multi-channel company.
• Deep hands-on experience with multi-state sales tax and international VAT, including registrations, filings, and nexus analysis.
• Comfortable being both the researcher and the implementer: you can turn a new jurisdiction's tax rules into a working, repeatable process on your own.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Public accounting background combined with in-house tax experience.
• Working knowledge of transfer pricing and oversight of direct tax compliance.
• Familiarity with tax engines and ERP or POS systems used to automate indirect tax calculations.
