Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Shift: 1st/2nd Split Shift (10 AM - 6 PM)
Location: Kentwood, MI
Pay: Up to $35/hr. (Based on experience)
Job Overview:
We’re seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to support a fast-paced food manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across mechanical and electrical systems and can respond quickly to minimize downtime.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement timely corrective actions
- Maintain and repair equipment such as conveyors, mixers, grinders, ovens, and refrigeration systems
- Inspect machinery to identify wear, damage, and potential failures
- Ensure all work meets food safety and regulatory standards (HACCP, GMP)
- Complete and maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and inventory records
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and line improvements
- Partner with production and quality teams to improve equipment reliability and performance
- Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimize production disruptions
- Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred
- Prior experience in industrial maintenance (food or beverage manufacturing preferred)
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical systems, including PLCs
- Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, USDA/FDA guidelines)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking systems
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Manufacturing environment with strict sanitation standards
- Exposure to moving equipment and production lines
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in varying conditions (hot, cold, wet, and noisy)
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces as needed
