Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient body for diagnostic purposes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs MRI examinations according to department policy and protocols, including preparing and positioning patients for MRI procedures of various parts of the body.
- Sets up equipment (coils, monitoring devices, etc.) and positions patient to provide best demonstration of body part under study.
- Performs Quality Control tests on department equipment, reporting any discrepancies to the proper personnel.
- Collects and evaluates relevant examination information from scheduling, patient, and referring physician, including screening information.
- Maintains departmental records and patient information according to policy.
- Is responsive to patient physical and psychological needs, keeping patients informed and explaining procedures clearly to avoid unnecessary anxiety.
- Conducts safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patient families, and hospital staff, ensuring no unauthorized metal objects or implants are present.
- Evaluates results of scanning procedure for quality and completeness, manipulates images for physician review, and sends images to PACS system.
- Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities and maintains accurate documentation on logbook worksheet and examination charges.
- Seeks advice from appropriate resource when unsure of protocol or policy and exercises independent judgment in planning sequence of operations.
- Works directly with patients, internal customers, external customers, and other healthcare professionals and staff.
- Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.

- Completion of an MRI accredited program.
- Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R).
- OR
- American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
- BLS Certification.
