Overview:
Leads the development of detailed and strategic cost estimates for electrical construction projects. This role focuses on pricing accuracy, risk evaluation, and supporting successful project delivery from preconstruction through handoff.
Responsibilities:
- Lead preparation of comprehensive cost estimates for electrical construction projects
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to define scope and identify risks
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for power, lighting, low-voltage, and specialty systems
- Develop pricing models covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scope
- Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor proposals
- Identify cost optimization and value engineering opportunities
- Evaluate risks and incorporate contingencies into estimates
- Prepare and present bid packages for internal and client review
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients during preconstruction
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost records
- Support handoff to operations, ensuring clarity of scope and assumptions
- Mentor and guide junior estimators
Requirements:
- 5 years of electrical estimating experience in a contracting environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and construction practices
- Experience estimating large-scale or complex projects
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, ConEst, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Experience with labor productivity, unit costs, and material pricing
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Experience in design-build or design-assist environments
- Familiarity with BIM and digital takeoff tools
- Experience with vendor and subcontractor negotiations
- Leadership or mentorship experience
- Background working with large general contractors (heavy civil experience a plus)
