Long-term contract opportunity supporting a two-unit nuclear power plant in Southport, NC. This role focuses on civil/structural engineering design modifications supporting plant modernization, risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and capital engineering change (EC) projects in a regulated nuclear environment.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for civil/structural design modification projects
- Develop engineering change packages including design inputs, calculations, technical evaluations, specifications, installation instructions, and testing requirements
- Perform structural engineering support including seismic analysis, foundation design, equipment mounting, piping systems, and pipe supports
- Evaluate engineering issues, develop alternatives, and provide technical recommendations
- Prepare and revise design basis documents, engineering calculations, drawings, and technical requirements
- Support 10 CFR 50.59 screenings and nuclear plant modification evaluations
- Provide field engineering support during implementation, including occasional off-hours/outage support
- Support post-modification testing, turnover, and corrective action/work order activities
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, and multi-discipline engineering teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field)
- 10 years of nuclear industry experience, including civil/structural design modifications
- Experience with engineering change packages and plant modification processes
- Strong understanding of nuclear design controls, configuration management, and QA processes
- Ability to research technical issues and develop engineering recommendations
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access (including required training and fitness-for-duty requirements)
Preferred Qualifications
- PE license
- Nuclear power plant experience (BWR or similar)
- Experience with 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations
- 15 years nuclear civil/structural engineering experience
- Prior qualification as Modification Engineer and/or Design Verification Engineer
