Manufacturing Fabrication Technician I (3rd Shift)
Shift: Sunday–Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM (Must train on 1st shift Sunday-Thursday 6:30am-4pm for 3-6 months)
Department: Precision Fabrication
Pay: $19/hr (Will receive 15% shift differential once hired on permanently)
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Fabrication Technician is responsible for the precision fabrication of optical crystal components in accordance with engineering specifications and production schedules. This role involves hands-on operation of CNC and manual grinding and polishing equipment, optical measurement and inspection, and adherence to strict quality, safety, and documentation standards in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform optical crystal fabrication processes including blocking, grinding, beveling, polishing, measuring, and inspection across a variety of materials and configurations
- Select, prepare, and utilize appropriate fixtures; block parts for grinding and polishing operations
- Operate CNC grinding machines as well as manual grinding and polishing equipment
- Prepare polishing slurries and maintain polishing laps
- Measure optical and geometric properties using mechanical and optical metrology equipment
- Visually inspect surface quality using microscopes and other inspection tools
- Interpret and follow technical work instructions and engineering drawings, verifying conformance to specifications and tolerances
- Accurately record production data and route parts using the electronic Shop Floor Control system
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace in accordance with 5S principles
- Perform all work in compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements
- Communicate effectively with peers, engineering, and management to support production goals
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, within a technical manufacturing environment
- Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and good visual acuity
- Solid basic math skills and ability to work in metric and English units
- Ability to use measurement equipment, read detailed work instructions, interpret engineering prints, and maintain accurate written records
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, ability to multitask, and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or two-year technical degree
- Experience in a technical or precision manufacturing environment
- Experience measuring production parts, interpreting process outputs, and basic troubleshooting
- Prior experience in optical fabrication, including use of microscopes and optical or mechanical metrology equipment
- Experience operating grinding, cutting, or polishing machinery, manual and/or CNC
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing environment involving standing for extended periods and performing fine manual tasks
- Use of microscopes and precision measurement equipment requiring sustained visual focus
