What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Supervisor position at Talent Group?
🚨 Payroll pros… this one is for the people who actually like the moving parts.
Talent Group is partnering with a long-time food processing client to help them find their next Payroll Supervisor. This is a confidential search, so we’re keeping the company name out of the spotlight for now — but we can say this is a well-established, non-union food processor with a strong internal team, a solid training process, and a payroll function that matters in a very real way.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that payroll is part math, part compliance, part problem-solving, and part “let’s clean up the missed punch report before Monday wins.”
What makes this role interesting:
This company runs year-round with approximately 150 employees, then ramps up significantly during peak season with a seasonal workforce of up to 650 employees. During the off-season, the environment is much more relaxed and steady. During season, things move fast — and they need someone who can stay calm, organized, confidential, and accurate when the volume increases.
The Payroll Supervisor will oversee biweekly payroll during the year and help manage weekly payroll during the seasonal ramp-up, meaning there are two separate payroll cycles happening at once during peak season.
A few things you’ll be handling:
Payroll classifications
Holiday pay
Missed punch reports
Daily labor reports
Garnishments
Hourly and biweekly payroll processing
Payroll compliance and confidentiality
Coordination with timekeepers throughout the plant
Supporting seasonal onboarding from a payroll standpoint
The biggest lift in this role happens when seasonal hiring kicks into gear. A large number of new employees come on board quickly, and missed punches, classifications, and payroll details need to be cleaned up early in the week so payroll stays on track.
The good news? You are not walking into this alone. There are two internal team members who can assist with training, along with outside system support to help ensure a smooth transition.
The right fit will likely have:
A strong understanding of California payroll and labor law
Experience with high-volume hourly payroll
The ability to handle confidential information with maturity
Strong attention to detail
A calm, steady approach during busy seasons
The ability to separate emotion from payroll decisions
A team-first attitude and a sense of humor when the reports get spicy
This is a backfill for someone who has been with the company for 10 years, so there is stability, history, and a real opportunity to step into an important seat.
Bilingual Spanish would be SUPER helpful.
Compensation: Approximately $80,000–$90,000 annually
Schedule: Monday through Friday (minimal overtime)
Pay structure: Open to salary or hourly, depending on fit
Plant: Non-union food processing environment
One important note: because of the seasonal ramp-up, this person needs to plan on no time off between July 1 and October 10 each year. Outside of that window, the role offers a much more balanced and predictable pace.
If you are the payroll person who loves clean reports, accurate classifications, compliance, and being the calm one in the middle of a busy season — this could be a really great fit.
