Structural Engineer – Forensic & Building Investigations
Location: Annapolis, MD | Hybrid Field Travel
Salary: Up to $130K Base
We’re hiring a Civil/Structural Engineer to join a small, highly technical engineering firm specializing in structural investigations, property damage, and forensic engineering. Prior forensic experience is NOT required, this is a great opportunity for a strong structural engineer who enjoys figuring out why something failed rather than spending every day behind a desk designing it.
What You’ll Do
- Inspect residential and commercial properties to evaluate structural damage and building conditions
- Investigate the origin and cause of damage or structural failures
- Evaluate roofing, framing, siding, windows, building envelopes, and other structural components
- Determine appropriate repair scope, constructability considerations, and potential code upgrades
- Perform engineering analysis and document findings through detailed technical reports
- Manage assigned cases from initial inspection through final report
- Provide objective engineering conclusions and confidently explain/defend your findings
- Travel throughout the region for field inspections
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of Civil or Structural Engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- EIT/FE or progress toward PE; PE licensure will ultimately be required
- Strong structural fundamentals and analytical/problem-solving skills
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and spending time in the field
- Construction, residential, roofing, building-envelope, inspection, or failure-analysis experience is a plus
- No forensic engineering background required, training will be provided
